Pastor’s Testimony

It all started when…

I came to know Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior in the summer of 1974. My wife and I both came to Christ during the period of time as we were "establishing" ourselves in the community of Loveland, Colorado. I was 24 years of age and employed as an elementary school teacher. While my wife had grown up regularly attending church I had not. It was probably her influence that led us to attend a non-evangelical church and we began to become active.

Because we were one of the few young couples and we had an education background we were asked to be youth leaders in the church. One of our responsibilities was the selection of curriculum materials. It was this task, along with a desire to teach the youth something lasting, that led us to visit a Christian bookstore in a neighboring city. In that store we discovered a discipleship book for new Christians that sounded interesting. We bought it for ourselves - not the youth. The only problem - we had not yet come to know Christ.

The book was designed for a 30-day study for new believers. It was recommended (in the book) that we begin to memorize scripture. One of the suggested verses was Ephesians 2:8-9.

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast." (KJV)

Linda and I both worked to learn the verse. As we memorized we began to discuss and dissect the meaning. By the grace of God this verse came alive to us. We came to a conscious understanding of our sin and our failure as God's creation and the forgiveness and redemption that is found only in Christ. More than merely understanding, however, we received Christ as our Lord.

We realized that the message of salvation was not preached in the church we attended and found an evangelical church to attend and to grow in Christ. We fully believe that the scripture can give meaning and understanding to a lost soul regarding God's amazing provision of salvation through faith in Christ.

Have you personally received that amazing provision?
